In hot areas, if you have west-facing windows use window tints, blinds, deciduous trees or trellises to help keep out heat from the summer sun. In general, you will lower your summer air-conditioning bill by planting trees and bushes along the west side of your home.

What do I do with compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs)?
They can be sent to companies that will recycle them and properly deal with the mecury inside. The closest location to Chestertown that will accept CFLs is the Home Depot in Middletown. Just take them to the returns desk.

Located on Earl Nicholson Rd off of Route 20 in Chestertown.
The following Recyclable materials accepted at no charge at the Nicholson Drop-off Center:
- Computer and Computer Components: Computers and computer components that plug into a computer, (monitor, keyboard, speakers etc.)
- Textiles and clothes
- Used oil and antifreeze, Lead Acid Batteries, boat shrink wrap
- Yard waste is accepted at the chipper area. Brush not to exceed 8 inches in diameter, leaves, tree trimmings, grass. NO STUMPS
- Road Construction Material: Concrete, bricks, stone and small amounts of crushed black top. All material must be clean of metal and dirt.
Also accepted for a fee:
- tires - $2 each
- white goods (stove, washer, dryer, dishwasher, water heater) - $5 each
- white goods with CFC's (refridgerators) - $10 each
- scrap metal - $60 a ton
- furniture - $60 a ton
- rubble/construction debris - $60 a ton
