Colin and Janice Dickson save energy in their home by using a clothesline on their back deck. A typical clothing dryer uses 5,000 watts when in use- so one hour long dryer cycle is the equivalent of running 50 100 watt light bulbs for one hour!
With a clothesline, the sun does the drying instead. In warm months, clothing can be dry in as little as an hour. Just watch out for birds and rain!
