In the spring of 2007, Chestertown Mayor Margo Bailey approached the Center for Environment & Society (CES) at Washington College for assistance in implementing the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement (MCPA). A Chestertown Climate Action Committee was formed, comprised of the Mayor, interested citizens, and CES staff. The initial work done by CES intern Sarah Gregg was so successful that a formal alliance was established between the town and CES. With grant support from the Town Creek Foundation and the Shared Earth Foundation, CES hired a Climate Action Coordinator to coordinate efforts.

Town Trees to be Recorded
The Town of Chestertown will be updating its community tree inventory during the week of September 15 -19, 2008. Volunteers will be needed to record size, condition and species of all trees in order to produce an accurate database of tree information.
Volunteers will have training with tree measuring equipment, guided by Dr. Carl M. Gallegos of the Center for Environment & Society at Washington College. Call Jenifer Endicott at 410.810.7161 for more information.

Each year, forty billion plastic utensils are thrown into landfills across the country. Using your own utensils, glasses and flatware is free, whereas the cost of plastic plates, forks, knives and cups for a total of fifty meals can add up to $100.
